Mushroom Packing Machines: Tray Flow Wrap, Handling and Price

For harvested mushrooms in a retail punnet, a flow wrapper can close a film bag around the filled tray while the tray supports the product. Select the infeed and sealing clearance around the fullest normal tray, including mushrooms standing above its rim. The tray footprint alone does not show whether the product will pass safely.

Comwin develops mushroom flow-wrapping arrangements around the product, tray and required output. We assess the transfer and film path together so that intact caps and a usable finished pack remain part of the acceptance target.

Identify what “mushroom tray packing” means

These are different closing operations. The flow-wrapper selection and budgets below apply to film-bag wrapping; a buyer’s specified cling overwrap or sealed tray lid needs its own equipment assessment.

Support the tray without touching the caps

A horizontal flow wrapping machine forms film around the loaded tray, makes the longitudinal closure and seals the two ends. Set guides around the tray body, leaving clearance for the product and film. A cap leaning beyond the tray edge can enter the sealing path even when the tray itself is correctly aligned.

Check tray stiffness and the handoff between conveyors. A flexible tray can tip or change shape at a gap; a sudden speed change can move the mushrooms toward one end. Observe the underside support and the product after wrapping, not only whether the film has closed.

Leave room beyond the filled tray for the transverse seals. A tight bag length can pull film against the highest mushrooms or drag the punnet toward the jaws. Use the largest normal fill and the least rigid tray in the trial.

Long-stem mushrooms need a different feeding sample

For enoki or a prepared long-stem bundle, evaluate a supported transfer with the stems aligned and the cap end clear of the closure. Determine whether the actual bundle needs a support tray. A machine demonstrated with a rigid punnet has not yet established how it handles an unrestrained bundle.

Show the normal variation in bundle height and length. Include the cut end and any loose stems in the inspection so that a neat outside pack does not conceal handling damage or product caught in a seal.

Select the film with the product and distribution plan

Specify the mushroom type, packing condition and intended storage and transport conditions. The film’s sealing behaviour and the product’s ventilation requirements need to be evaluated together. Include any required perforation pattern in the actual trial material.

Check retained packs for condensation, appearance and the agreed quality criteria over the intended holding period. The product owner should validate the storage conditions and usable life. A clear closed bag, an anti-fog appearance or a gas option does not establish preservation performance by itself.

Separate filled-tray wrapping from tray filling

Staff already weigh and fill the punnets

Inspect and fill tray → verify weight → present the filled tray → flow wrap.

Retain a successful filling station. Compare how staff load the wrapper and whether controlled spacing removes repeated hand adjustments.

Filled trays arrive on a conveyor

Receive the filled tray → control spacing and alignment → wrap → discharge.

Define accumulation, stop signals and recovery after a gap in supply. Include the transfer from the actual upstream conveyor.

If automatic tray denesting, product weighing and filling are also required, specify those operations separately. A wrapper fed automatically with filled trays is automating wrapping; the word “automatic” does not establish that the mushrooms were weighed and loaded by the same system.

Test the fragile product through the whole run

State accepted packs per hour for each filled-tray format. Record cap damage before loading and after packing so that the trial can distinguish incoming damage from damage created by transfer or film handling. Inspect the highest and most irregular normal fills.

Include product gaps, replenishment, a normal stop and restart, and the smallest-to-largest tray change. Confirm how a tilted tray or misplaced product is removed. Agreed operator tasks and actual changeover time are more useful than an unqualified maximum wrapper speed.

Mushroom packing machine price: two wrapping scopes

Equipment scopeIndicative USD budgetAssumptions
Compatible manually loaded horizontal flow wrapperUS$5,000 to US$25,000Already-filled trays, one agreed format and suitable rollstock.
Filled-tray spacing, transfer and flow-wrapping cellUS$20,000 to US$65,000One defined incoming filled-tray format, controlled feed to a compatible wrapper and simple outfeed.

The second range is a conditional early planning budget for new equipment supplied from China. Both scopes exclude cultivation, product preparation, tray denesting, mushroom weighing or filling, special atmosphere systems, case packing, freight, taxes, overseas installation and production consumables. Cling overwrapping and tray-rim sealing need separate budgets.

When comparing a price in India or another market, use the same filled-tray and operating scope. Ask what the offer includes before comparing a wrapper-only figure with an automatically fed station. Confirm delivery and local service responsibilities alongside the equipment amount.

What the mushroom sample run should prove

  • Stable transport of the least rigid tray and the tallest normal fill without unacceptable cap damage.
  • Product and tray clear of both end seals, with the required closure checks completed.
  • Intact bundles and supported stems where long-stem mushrooms are included.
  • Consistent accepted output, recovery after supply gaps, cleaning access and a real tray change.

Mushroom growing-bag or bed-packing equipment handles cultivation material. It is a separate task from packaging harvested mushrooms for sale.

Send a filled punnet and the finished-pack sample

Provide the mushroom type, filled-tray dimensions, product height above the rim, pack weight and required accepted packs per hour. Include photos of the incoming trays and any bruising or sealing problem. Comwin can then propose the wrapping arrangement and the sample run needed to confirm the transfer and film clearance.

Comwin offers free sample testing, a two-year machine warranty and a three-year warranty for core components. Remote support responds within 24 hours. Training, installation and spare-part responsibilities are agreed in the proposal.
